Access for the Visually and Hearing Impaired
Visually Impaired
For patrons who are visually impaired, Optelec Image Enlargement Readers for low-vision patrons are available at the Library.
There is also a Kurzweil 1000 computer station, equipped with ZOOM TEXT and JAWS for Windows. This unit has closed circuit television (CCTV) and a built in camera. With Optical Character Recognition (OCR), an image can be scanned and changed into text. The text is then ‘read’ and the audio can be accessed through attached speakers or through earphones available at the Reference Desk. Some information can be saved to a 3 1/2” floppy disk or USB Flash Media.
A Braille Display unit is also available. This display can connect to the Kurzweil 1000 station. Inquire at the Reference Desk.
Hearing Impaired
